Investor deal room · 2026 EIS round

The energy layer behind AI.

Every model, chip and data centre runs on power. Hydrogen Solutions is developing a solid oxide electrolyser architecture that targets more than 90% efficiency, aimed at making clean hydrogen cheaper to produce at industrial scale.

The big picture

Trillions are going into AI. All of it needs power.

The world's largest banks, energy agencies and technology companies agree on the direction: AI investment is accelerating, data centres are straining power grids, and clean molecules like hydrogen are needed where electricity alone falls short.

How a solid oxide cell turns steam into hydrogen.

A guided cross-section of a single cell. Follow the five-step tour, or use the controls to change the temperature, run the cell in reverse, or see what happens when a seal fails.

Why efficiency is the whole game

Electricity is 60–80% of what green hydrogen costs.

A kilogram of hydrogen holds 33.3 kWh of energy. The less electricity an electrolyser burns to make it, the cheaper every kilogram becomes. Move the power price and compare the technologies.

Electricity cost only, at the stated efficiency (LHV). Hydrogen Solutions figure is the company's commercial target, not a measured result. Peer figures as cited in the IM.

Inside the hot box

The seal was always the problem. That is what the design targets.

Ceramic cell stackruns at 600–900°C

Solid oxide cells use high temperature and waste industrial heat to cut the electricity needed. The catch has always been durability: at those temperatures, seals crack and stacks leak. Hydrogen Solutions has developed an anode-supported architecture with a proprietary seal and manifold design aimed at that failure point.

In the company's internal testing, a 35-layer stack has run with minimal degradation and cycling tests showed no seal degradation. Not yet independently verified.

EIS calculator

What an investment could cost you after relief.

EIS is designed to share the risk of early-stage investing with HMRC. Enter an amount and your income tax band to see the up-front relief, and how much of your money is exposed if the company fails.

£
Example figure. Change it to your own.

Assumes you have enough income tax liability to use the full 30% relief, shares are held at least three years, and loss relief is claimed against income at your marginal rate. EIS relief is capped at £1m a year (£2m for knowledge-intensive companies).

Gains on EIS shares held for three years can also be free of CGT, and gains from other assets reinvested here can be deferred. Illustration only, based on current HMRC rules. Relief depends on the company keeping its qualifying status and on your own circumstances. This is not tax advice.

Upside case

How to read this. Values are the IM's illustrative per-share scenarios multiplied by your share count. The IM links prices to milestones, not dates: the 3-year view uses the licensing-revenue stage and the 5-year view uses the scale-up stage. Gains on EIS shares held three years or more can be free of capital gains tax if the company keeps its qualifying status. The failure case applies 30% EIS relief and loss relief at the tax rate chosen in the calculator above.

These are not forecasts, targets or promises. They assume successful development, partnerships, licensing revenue and funding, ignore dilution from future rounds, and assume a buyer or listing exists to sell into. There is no market for these shares today. You could lose everything you invest.

Key risks

Read these before investing.

You could lose all of the money you invest. Most early-stage companies fail.

The shares are unlisted and illiquid. You may not be able to sell them, and should expect to hold for many years.

The technology is still in development. Test results to date are internal and have not been independently verified.

Future funding rounds are likely and may dilute your shareholding.

Up to 45% of the gross funds raised may be applied to introducer commissions, marketing, distribution, administration and IT costs, reducing the amount available for development.

EIS relief is not guaranteed. Advance Assurance can be withdrawn, and the company or your circumstances may not qualify.
